Taylor Filorimo began playing softball when she was four years old.  When she was 13, she was at the ASA Nationals softball tournament when she became ill.  Just a few days later, on August 4th 2009, she was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer primarily found in men over the age of 50.  Being diagnosed on the 4th day of the month is the reason that the number 4 is used in Pray 4 Tay, Play 4 Tay and Live 4 Tay.  Tay’s community supported her family for three years with a benefit softball tournament that Tay saw grow each year.  During that third tournament in August, just before she passed on September 5, 2012, she said, “When my family no longer needs the support of this tournament, I want it to continue to help other families.”  The primary mission of the Live 4 Tay Foundation is to provide financial assistance grants to families who have children with cancer.  We have also established this scholarship fund in Taylor’s name to help fund higher education for athletes who share Taylor’s passion for softball.
